In the heart of the Lower Savinja Valley, where green gold has been growing for centuries, your boutique journey begins.
Your first stop is the Eco-Museum of Hop-Growing and Brewing Industry of Slovenia – the heart of beer heritage, where tradition meets innovation. The ticket, included in the package, opens the door to both the past and the future. Through the unique VR experience "Green Gold", you’ll embark on a sensory journey through the history of hop-growing. With the interactive game "Brew Your Own Beer", you’ll become a brewer for a day: choose your flavor, create a recipe, and design a personalized bottle of beer to take home as a souvenir from your journey.
After the museum, enjoy a walk among the majestic hop fields, whose lush greenery creates a breathtaking setting. The path gently leads you to Lake Vrbje – a natural haven of peace, birds, and tranquility. Here, at a pre-prepared spot, a carefully set "Magic Picnic" awaits you. In your picnic basket, you’ll find delicious homemade treats prepared by the Flajs family, who passionately carry on their brewing tradition and create boutique flavors paired with their beer or apple juice. You can refresh yourself with Ponirk’s iced coffee or lemonade, then take time to relax, birdwatch with binoculars, or simply listen to the sounds of nature.
A special emphasis is placed on sustainability – eco-friendly toilets and a drinking fountain are available by the lake, where you can refill fresh drinking water along the way.
On your way back, stop by Hopslandia – a modern park offering camper van facilities, parking, a drinking fountain, photo spots, and playgrounds where kids and adults alike can enjoy their own kind of fun or take a quiet moment to plan their next visit.
Seasonal Experience Ending
The ending of the experience depends on the time of year.
If you visit Žalec during the Green Gold Beer Fountain season, your journey culminates at this world-unique beer fountain. Each participant receives a special tasting mug designed by renowned designer Oskar Kogoj. You’ll be able to taste six different Slovenian craft beers, and then take the mug home as a lasting and aesthetic souvenir.
If the fountain is not operating, the experience ends back at the Eco-Museum with a tasting of Kukec beer in a cozy tasting room.
